John West No Drain Fridge Pot wins top honours at FMT Awards 2019

John West No Drain Fridge Pot, a breakthrough in tuna packaging, was pronounced the Most Innovative Packaging Development at this year’s prestigious Food Management Today (FMT) Awards.

Marking the hottest date in the British food industry calendar, the awards celebrate the very best in creativity, innovation and excellence.

John West scooped the industry’s top achievement in packaging design, with its easy peel-able and re-sealable No Drain Fridge Pot.  As consumers strive for healthier, more balanced lifestyles, this category-first innovation makes it easier for people to enjoy tuna as part of this, with its visibility in the fridge also keeping it front of mind.

In addition to the Most Innovative Packaging Award, John West’s Easy Peel Mackerel range was named as a finalist in the Best New Product Development category, with its ring-pull free packaging attracting the attention of the judges.

Jon Burton, International Marketing Director, John West Foods said: “These awards fill us with great pride and are a validation of our relentless focus on innovation in all aspects of our business – from the products themselves to the packaging we design. Getting tuna into the fridge is the latest chapter in our long history of making products easier to use and fish more accessible to a greater number of people.”

The comprehensive and rigorously judged initiative was based on votes by readers of Food Management Today magazine, together with product evaluation from an independent, expert panel of judges.  Judging took place over four days at the test kitchens of the Regional Food Academy at Harper Adams University in Shropshire, with the FMT 2019 Awards spanning sixteen categories in total.

The winners were unveiled during a special celebratory lunch at the Royal Garden Hotel, London, attended by around 300 guests and hosted by Celebrity chef and TV presenter John Torode.
